Celebrate the Small Things: Photos of Bangkok's Floating Market

Well, it really is true. We write what we know and experience in life, and our stories are richer by far when we do. I'm celebrating a memory and the inspiration behind writing The Shells of Mersing.

My husband and I spent nine wonderful months living in Malaysia in 1995-96. Our trip to Thailand was one of the highlights. Here are some photos of the Floating Market in Bangkok. It was fun popping my characters into this setting.

Celebrating another Cover Reveal for The Shells of Mersing...... over at Tamara Narayan's blog.  Thanks, Tamara!!

Check it out and ALSO Tamara's new book!

One collection, four stories, 171 pages of suspense...

Heart Stopper: The disappearance of random household items baffles Dallas Radner and his eleven-year-old daughter, Tessa. Ten plastic bags, nine ballpoint pens . . . what's next? This odd countdown should end on November 1, The Day of the Dead. That's also Tessa's birthday and the one-year anniversary of her surgery, the day her heart stopped on the operating table....

Happy Weekend

Everyone!

  2. Thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures. I've been to a couple of other countries, but none as far away as Malaysia

  5. I echo Elizabeth. Wow. And how wonderful to have first hand research instead of having to look it up.
    Congrats, Tamara.

    1. Could not agree more! I kept a diary and many of the descriptions and settings in my novel come from those pages.

  6. My experience was the opposite of yours. I lived in Thailand and traveled to Malaysia a couple of times (visa runs). I remember the floating markets well. A unique experience. Coincidentally, my 'celebrate' post is about a market with a bit of a difference as well. Have a great week.

    1. Need to check that out! We never got to travel as far as Australia or New Zealand and regret that. We were so close.

  7. It's like the Venice of the Far East! We have traveling grocers here too. They have wagons full of produce pulled by horses, mules, or tiny donkeys. I saw your new cover at Tamara's. It's very beautiful and quite peaceful-looking at the same time.

    1. As a writer it was a no-brainer. I knew I'd been given a gift and it would be foolish to ignore, but it was not easy to do. Look how long it took! LOL. Feeling really blessed :)

  10. Love those pictures! Now, the traveler in me is itching to get underway. It would be so fun to be there - a perfect setting for a story.

  11. Great photos! That's awesome how your book drew on a real life experience like this. (I sometimes sneak in my own experiences for my comics, too, although none of 'em are this exciting, LOL.)
