Celebrate the Small Things: You Can Always Find Something

When life gets you down, find something to smile about. Try a happy memory that makes you reflect and gives you pause. I often head for the baked goods, perhaps not the healthiest diet-wise, but I enjoy baking cookies on a cold autumn afternoon. I did this a lot as a girl for my family, and also as a young mother. Nothing better than fresh baked molasses cookies and a cold glass of milk. Store bought just doesn't cut it!

How about warm socks on a cold Autumn morning? I'm thinking of those cozy Norwegian slippers I sometimes got for Christmas under the tree as a girl, but I like the stripe ones on the left too. Boy, do they ever warm the toes.

Maybe it's a taste of homemade jam that the neighbor brought over or you made yourself. I was given a box of plums and made plum jam.
It could be a funny line from a favorite movie.
I still quote lines from Bill Murray's 'Groundhog Day'.  Oh, no, did I do that same thing again? Will I ever learn? "It's Groundhog Day!"

Could it be a good book you gave yourself permission to read? When you really should be doing something else? I say, go for it! I like the orange tabby purring at this young boy's side. Animals have a special gift. They know how to make us slow down in life. Best blood pressure medicine of all!

How about one of #Evernight Teen's awesome books? If you read one, be sure to give a review. It's the kindest support you can give an author.

I'm reading Kate Larkindale's book, An Unstill Life by Evernight Teen. What are you reading?

And don't forget to vote for C. Lee Mckenzie's book, Double Negative, up for the Reader's Choice award for Young Adult. You can vote here: 🙂  https://www.tckpublishing.com/readers-choice-voting

There is is always something to celebrate, so if you haven't found the time this week, make time now. I guarantee you'll feel a whole lot better. "You can never have too much happy."

  1. You're so right Sharon, remembering a good memory always lifts one's gloom and doom. Something I can relate to.

  2. For me, on a cool October day, it's hot tea with honey and a good book. Maybe a walk, appreciating the turning leaves. It really is the little things that give so much pleasure.

  3. I. Loving that stamp! You know I would:) we should be happy with all we have considering we live in North America and not in any war torn country. Right now we have had record breaking temps which I wish was not the case as I love the colder temps. Since being in my home with is 18 years, I have never not turned on the heat by mid September.we will be. High of 26C today. I love craft shows and rainy days which we have today. I love our animals and how they greet me when I come home. Life is truly good...enjoy your weekend!

    1. Hi! Hadn't thought much about the stamp itself, but of course you would love it :) Yes, we are very fortunate to live here. Those record breaking temperatures really do fit a pattern for global warming, or whatever the debaters want to call it, but some kind of change is afoot. A good time of year for those craft shows. Enjoy, and those sweet pets of yours. Boy, do I miss, but need a fence first.

  4. Hey Sharon,

A nice, positive post. Thanks and after just coming in from the pouring rain, the sound of the rain pattering on the roof makes me feel all nice and cosy.

Wishing you a wonderful rest of your weekend.

  5. There's nothing quite like curling up with a good book, a cup of tea and a snuggly cat. Especially when you're supposed to be doing something else. I hope you're enjoying An Unstill Life!

    1. Was thinking about that recently....how women (and girls) like to curl up in a cozy spot to read. Tea, coffee...snugly cat--perfect. Guys don't bend that way. Just started your book and enjoying :)

  6. I should be working on my last chance to clean the house before work starts again tomorrow, instead I'm having brunch and catching up on blog posts.

I'm reading a lot of books, but just started Every Word by Ellie Marney, sequel to one I read and finished yesterday.

    1. Good for you, Sue, taking time out to chat and catch up. Blogging is good for the soul and so much better than other forums. Enjoy those books. Had not heard of Ellie Marney and her book.

  7. Wow, those books look stunning. Evernight Teen certainly knows how to design amazing covers!

And so true about giving yourself permission to read. I have a hard time doing that anymore, thanks to my inner workaholic, but I've been trying to get better at taking breaks this month. (Even allowed myself to read a little something just a few hours ago.) Hope you've been enjoying your latest read!

    1. Hey Heather. You could do covers like those too. I know. I've seen your work :) It's hard to give ourselves permission to read because it's so enjoyable, and it feels like play, but it's also therapeutic. I Know the feeling well. Just set the timer and tell your inner workaholic to go for a hike!

  10. Right now I'm reading King and King (Sleeping Beauties). I've got another 150 out of 700 pages to go. It's been okay, but probably not something I read over and over like some of King's other novels.

  12. I have chocolate! As I'm going to celebrate the fact by eating it, I'll then need to look for something else to be happy about. I expect I'll find it.
