I love the classics and plan to share some "opening lines" over the coming months. Comment if you like, or read for inspiration. Writing styles were different then, but were they really?

  1. I really need to read Tom Sawyer sometime. I've read (and loved) Huckleberry Finn, but never had the chance to check out this one!

  2. Sadly, I've never read Tom Sawyer. I know, I know. You don't have to say it. I need to catch up on my classics list.

  3. This is one book i need to read. In "It's A Wonderful Life", Clarence has this book with him and ends up giving it to George Bailey. I always wondered about the significance

    1. I don't recall that. George was wound so tight. Maybe it was to get him to enjoy life again? "Tom" was good at living in the moment.

  5. It's a great book; a while since I read it though (a couple of times). He's a great writers and a melancholy somewhat broken man in the end. He's worth reading and instructive to read about. He was a long-time friend of the great Scottish Christain author George MacDonald, and of a number of people in the Christian ministry, which is interesting, when you know him.

    1. Hmm.....a broken man in the end. I wonder what happened. Curious he was long time friend of MacDonald.

"Stay" is a charming word in a friend's vocabulary
(A.B. Alcott). Stay and visit awhile. Your comments mean a lot to me.
