Celebrate the Small Things: Winter Beauty in the Columbia Basin

As we do not normally get a lot of snow in Desert Aire (over Christmas the ground was covered), I'm celebrating snow on the Umtanums. I see these out my windows. Aren't they beautiful?

View across our river/lake - Priest Rapids Recreation area

One of the roads I drive.

Golf course clubhouse in distance. Yep, that's sage brush in front.

There are hiking trails in the Umtanums, but hikers should know there are rattlesnakes during the summer. I think I'll pass on hiking the Umtanums and just enjoy the beauty they offer from my window.

Happy Weekend Everyone!!

    1. I have enjoyed the view. Except for sunsets and sunrises, these mountains are rock brown most of the year and not nearly as impressive. Thanks!

  4. How amazing that they're partially covered with snow and what's there makes such interesting designs. Thanks for sharing the great pics! Have a wonderful weekend. :)

    1. People call them the mountains here. At first, I thought of the Umtanums as brown hills, which in the summer they are, and next to Mount Rainier (just beyond) they are! But here being so close, the effect is overwhelming. Thanks Susan!

  11. Thank you. Last winter we had no snow at all and very little rain. The moisture is long overdue! So far, the mountains are most attractive with snow. They are quite plain otherwise, except for certain times of the day...like sunsets and sunrises.

  12. Those are beautiful pictures. I didn't think you could get over there because of the army reservation.

  13. Oh, that's true for us in Desert Aire. I have no idea where the hiking trails are but online I saw a trail map. Thanks!
